Side Effects Common side effects of Ortho Tri-Cyclen include headache, nausea, dizziness, diarrhea, vomiting, breakthrough bleeding, and breast tenderness. For best results, take the first pill on the first Sunday after your period begins. Continue taking one active tablet a day for 21 days, followed by one reminder pill a day during the last week of treatment.
When you finish the 28-day cycle, begin a new one the following day.
